What We Do
OUR PROGRAMS
Maternal Health Education and Malnutrition
Women in Africa have the world's highest death rates in pregnancy and during childbirth according to the World Health Organization (WHO). The five leading causes are bleeding, infection, high blood pressure, prolonged labor and botched abortions. Women lack education and information about birth control, and some become pregnant too young to give birth safely. Malnutrition, stunted growth, malaria, anemia, other infections, and closely spaced pregnancies all add to the risks.
HIV Prevention, Education and Awareness
We provide education to HIV patients and people living in general with HIV through information/educational training sessions. Our aim is to reduce the impact of HIV/AIDS on individuals, families and communities. We facilitate effective support and care of children and people living with HIV/AIDS. Sub-Saharan Africa is more heavily affected by HIV and AIDS than any other region of the world. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), an estimated 22 million people are living with HIV in sub-Saharan Africa, around two thirds of the global total. In 2007 there were 1.9 million new HIV infections and 1.5 million people died from AIDS.
Medical Supplies, Drugs and Computers
Every day in the United States thousands of tons of unused medical supplies are either incinerated or sent to landfills. At the same time in Africa, patients are turned away because of lack of these supplies.
We accept any essentials or generic drugs and elementary medical supplies that are approved by our medical and ethics committees. We accept donations approved only by legal authorities and from our legal partners such as hospitals, pharmaceutical groups, and other NGOs.
Micro Finance, Small Businesses and Micro Loans/Grants
Our goal is to reduce unemployment rates in Africa. We stimulate the taste of entrepreneurship among young African generations so they can be discouraged to migrate, use illegal drugs and participate in other criminal activities.
We organize conferences in communities with our experts to explain the necessity of setting up small businesses. Our philosophy is to become creative and help Africans open small businesses. Depending on our budget, we provide small grants/loans for small projects.
Back to School Programs
We select the less privileged but talented youth people willing to go to school but lack funds to do so. Most of the time, the parents have either died or are very poor. We refer them to the available structures for assistance. Depending on our budget, we provide modest financial assistance to some of them.
African Immigrant's Economic Forums
We provide community forums focusing on economic trends in African immigrant communities of the United States. We provide skills to enable them to open small businesses here in U.S. or in Africa.
African Health and Development Conference
We organize an international conference every two years in Africa regarding health and development in Africa. This conference is an additional opportunity to improve our programs.
OUR STRATEGIES
Our strategies are based on three main areas:
- Health promotion concerns that include pregnant women and childbirth health, malaria, HIV/AIDS and medical supplies in healthcare facilities
- Economic development and small business opportunities
- Education, scholarships, school supplies and research
Our volunteers, paid workers, and consultants work in perfect collaboration with our local, national, and international partners to deliver healthcare services, clothing, unused medical supplies, and economic development training and assistance.
